This new addition has allowed AHS to create more opportunities for female students in sports media and event production, which have traditionally been male-dominated industries. The school has expanded its broadcast capabilities by investing in a dedicated production room, where students can control and operate the display for live events.
The 14-foot-high by 25-foot-wide Daktronics video display features 10-millimeter resolution and is paired with a multisport fixed-digit scoreboard. The timing was perfect for the fall sports season, giving student-athletes and fans a chance to enjoy the enhanced game-day experience from day one. “The video board has made our games so exciting because after we score, they will show photos or videos, and when we are announcing the lineup, they show our media day photos, which helps build excitement when something fun happens,” says AHS student Sophie Rousseau, a Junior field hockey player.
Students Gain Hands-On Experience
Assumption High School’s commitment to preparing young women for leadership roles goes beyond the classroom and onto the field. The Daktronics video display has already largely impacted their students by transforming athletic events while creating exciting learning opportunities.
The school launched a new sports media club, where students gain hands-on experience working with the LED video display and learning the fundamentals of live event production. Thirty students immediately signed up to engage with the technology
Starting in Fall 2025, the club will expand into a scheduled class during 'Rockets Taking Initiative' (RTI) time, a period focused on real-world learning experiences.
“This generation loves technology. They love seeing themselves on video. The sound system is unbelievable, and integrating a live video feed has elevated our events, making them feel like performances on a bigger stage. It's great for the kids and the community.” AHS Athletic Director Lisa Pinkston explains.
Parents are also enjoying the upgrades. “The new video board truly takes Assumption athletics to the next level,” said parent and fan April Laframboise.
The game-day experience is interactive and exciting, and the girls love it! As a spectator, it feels more like a college game day. Videos, player highlights, sponsors – it’s really impressive and even further elevates the AHS athletic program.
Technology Opens Pathways to Media Careers
AHS utilizes the new display to showcase a variety of sports, including field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, and track. Fans enjoy live stats, instant replays, and big-screen action, while students gain marketable skills in media production. Pinkston emphasized,
As an all-girls school, we're providing opportunities for girls to pursue career interests and creating entertaining, memorable game-day experiences for the community.
Pinkson also highlights the enrichment sessions AHS offers to students. AHS offers mental performance coaching, leadership workshops, and study skill sessions. By integrating these valuable learning programs, AHS prepares its students for success both on and off the field.
With a new video display, sound system, and student-led production team, AHS has created an immersive game-day atmosphere that rivals larger venues. Students, athletes, and fans all benefit from the elevated environment and unforgettable memories it creates.
