Daktronics Launches Fuelight 5000: The Latest in Fuel Price Display and Control Technology

Innovative matrix-style digit technology introduces customizable fuel price displays

BROOKINGS, S.D. – July 16, 2025 – Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, has introduced the Fuelight 5000 (FL-5000), a next-generation fuel price display series designed to elevate the visual identity and operational efficiency of convenience fuel retailers. This new product line brings an industry-first matrix-style digit display to the market, allowing customers to customize the font and appearance of fuel prices.

“Fuelight 5000 represents a significant advancement in fuel price display technology,” said Ron Koerner, product manager for the FL-5000. “We’ve engineered a product that not only meets the practical needs of fuel retailers but also provides the flexibility to visually align with their brand. It’s about more than just displaying numbers – it’s about making a statement.”

The FL-5000 series offers a wide range of digit sizes (6 inches to 48 inches), color options (amber, blue, green, red, white) and font styles (block, bold, digital, rounded, script), enabling businesses to create a cohesive brand presence. The display is UL and cUL recognized, ensuring compliance and safety. This technology also provides flexibility to convenience stores that want to advertise different prices for varying types of fuel payments. For example, stores that want to save money on credit card fees may incentivize customers to pay with cash.

“The Fuelight 5000 has a clear, crisp image that is easily visible from far away. Its bright display is noticeable during the day as well as in the evening,” said Renae Greenfield, director of retail operations for Sioux Valley Coop.

Designed for both new pylon construction and retrofit applications, the FL-5000 features a drop-in cabinet design with flange overlap for easy installation. It also supports POS (point-of-sale) integration, cash/credit and alternate product pricing, and multi-sign control, making it ideal for both single-store and multi-store operations.

“Daktronics is uniquely positioned in this market,” said Greg Breyfogle, sales representative for the Daktronics on-premise market. “Unlike competitors who focus solely on gas price displays, we offer a full suite of digital signage solutions – indoor, outdoor, LED and LCD. The FL-5000 is just one part of a much larger ecosystem that helps our customers communicate more effectively. Digital signage helps retailers expand their marketing reach, influencing customers at the point they are making impulse decisions – right at the store.”

The new control system also includes diagnostic capabilities for efficient troubleshooting, compatibility with FL-3000 display technology and future-proofing for evolving fuel price formats, including international configurations.

Soon, Daktronics will have the ability to integrate into retailers’ NOC for monitoring, taking reporting out of the store manager's responsibilities.
